Civic Service

The Parish Council’s Civic Service is traditionally held on the second Sunday in October at St Giles’ Church, Sandiacre and is an opportunity for the Chairman and local Councillors to welcome the Mayor of Erewash and thank representatives and volunteers from local groups and organisations within the community of Sandiacre for all the good work they undertake throughout the year.

The service of thanksgiving for community involvement is led by Rev Olaf Trelenberg and commences at 6.30pm. Refreshments are provided at the end of the service.

Remembrance Sunday Service

The Remembrance Sunday Service is organised by the Parish Council and held on the Sunday nearest the 11th November. Details will be shown on the site nearer the time. The service commemorates those from the local community who lost their lives during WW1 and WW2 and remembers those in the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

All residents are welcome to attend. Refreshments are provided at the end of the service.

Carols Around the Tree

On the first Saturday in December, a small group of local Councillors join together to erect the Parish Council’s Christmas Tree near the village sign on Derby Road. The official switch-on of the tree lights takes place at 4.30pm by the Mayor of Erewash.

Children from Cloudside Junior School provide festive artwork to decorate the Christmas Tree fencing and the Co-op store distributes free mince pies for all those attending. Carols are led by members of Sandiacre Male Voice Choir and the Notts and Derbyshire Hemlockstone Lions Club present a cheque to the Parish Council Chairman as a donation towards the tree.

It is a very popular start to the festive season and one that can be shared by the whole community. Everyone is very welcome to attend.
